Public Assistance Requested in Fatal Hit and Run

On Sunday August 2, 2009 at approximately 6:35 a.m., the Port Alberni RCMP were advised of a possible motor vehicle accident 2 km's east of Bamfield on the Bamfield Highway. Upon arrival at the scene, which was 1.2 kms's east of Bamfield, a male was located deceased on the side of the road with no vehicles in the area. The male, who is identified as 50 year old Andrew Frank COOK, was a resident of the Anacala Reserve near Bamfield. He was wearing dark clothing and appears to have been walking along the highway heading home, with evidence at the scene indicating he was hit by an unknown vehicle. There were no witnesses to this incident, however the investigation to date reveals he was last seen at the Hawk's Nest Pub around midnight and later observed to be walking east just outside of Bamfield on the Bamfield Highway. Police are requesting anyone who saw Andrew Frank COOK walking along the Bamfield Highway between midnight and 6:35 a.m. on Sunday August 2, 2009 to contact the Port Alberni RCMP or Crime stoppers. Also if anyone was driving along the highway between midnight and 6:30 a.m. on Sunday August 2nd, 2009  if anyone saw any vehicles on the highway between this time, or if anyone has any information at all regarding this incident, they are requested to contact the Port Alberni RCMP or Crime stoppers..
